Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you doing this research?

These research projects are scientific projects, aimed at increasing our knowledge of behaviour, the brain, and other psychological processes. Researchers usually publish the results in scientific journals, to increase knowledge and work towards improving lives. Each individual project you apply for should send you a tailored participant information sheet with information specific to that project.

Am I eligible to participate?

The goal of this webpage is to allow a more diverse group of people to take part in brain research. Studies within the School of Psychology need a variety of people to take part, to allow the results to represent all of society. Unless otherwise specified in the advertisement, you will be able to apply to take part in any research project, so long as you are over 18 years old. However please bear in mind that for MRI and MEG studies, certain metal implants can cause safety or data issues, so people must be screened for suitability before taking part in these types of studies.

Do participants get paid to take part in research?

This depends entirely on the project. You can find this information in the initial advertisement. Common incentives to take part include: a gift voucher, the chance to win a gift voucher or a payment payable via bank transfer.

Where will the study take place?

The advert will specify if the research is online or in-person. All brain imaging research takes place in the CUBRIC building: Maindy Road, Cardiff, CF24 4HQ

Is there parking on site?

There is free parking for participants in designated spaces behind CUBRIC, accessible via the gate next to the Hadyn Ellis Building. You must register your car registration number in the CUBRIC reception.

There is no free parking close to the Tower building or CUCHDS building. However there is pay and display Cardiff Council parking on Park Place.

Travel information can also be found on the About page.

Is there a train station nearby?

Cathays train station is a 10 minute walk to CUBRIC and a 5 minute walk to Tower Building and CUCHDS.
